Behind the scenes: How Dragon Planters are manufactured

More than ever, it’s important that we value our outdoor time and preserve our green spaces in increasingly built-up environments. Spending more time outdoors can have a positive impact on our mental health and wellbeing[1], and passing on our horticultural hobbies to the younger generations will be key to maintaining our nature. By using equipment that stands the test of time, our gardens will be protected for years to come.

Dragon Planters is the inaugural product range from Dragon Garden Products. Thanks to rotational moulding techniques, our planters are durable and can withstand challenging weather conditions, making them ideal for any outdoor space or climate.

Creating our planters is a process made simple thanks to the science of rotational moulding. In a nutshell, here’s how they’re made:

1.     Once the shape and style of a planter is decided upon, an aluminium or steel ‘tool’ is split in two halves is used as a mould.

2.     This tool is then filled with polymer powder and attached to the rotational moulding machine.

3.     The machine rotates the tool to distribute the polymer equally around its inner walls. Then, it is heated so that the polymer sticks to these walls. Rotational moulding is ideal for creating hollow products from plastic, as the liquid solidifies to only the inner walls of our moulds. Our planters need to be hollow so they can be filled with soil, compost, or whatever you like – a perfect match.

4.     Once cooled, the tool is removed to reveal the solidified product. This product is then cut and refined, leaving the finished planter. Our processes are so consistent that every planter is practically identical and they can be evenly stacked on top of each other for easy storage.

5.     Every product we make is thoroughly tested and reviewed to assure quality. If it doesn’t meet our high standards, it doesn’t leave the factory!
